The Source of my Discomfort

If you use headphones a lot, as I do, you may find that they start to be more and more uncomfortable.
Headphones are essential in my audiobook narration work.
Unlike some I prefer to do the actual narration without them, but in the editing stages they have to be on! After about an hour my ears were sore and aching. A break would help but soon it would be back.
This can be due to the foam padding wearing out, but mine are relatively new. So it wasn't that.
Next tip was that the headphones themselves can be too tight.
I loosened mine as much as possible and that helped a bit. To stretch them you need to measure the width of your head, add an inch and make a row of books equal to that measurement and put your headphones on them for a few hours.
I tried that, but no, that wasn't the answer either.
Another idea was that it could be due to wearing glasses and headphones together. If the arms of the glasses are being pushes into the sides of the head before the ears you can make notches in the headphone pads. But that wasn't my problem. The soreness for me was the top parts of my ears. Finally I realised it was that the arms of the glasses being pressed into my ears by the headphones that was the source of the discomfort. Having the arms of the glasses above the headphones has solved the problem. Hooray!
